Beach Memories are the Best Memories

The "Beach" can describe a spot on the Atlantic, the Gulf Coast, the Pacific, on a lake, and so on and so on...and the Beach has the uncanny ability to hold the best memories. From childhood vacations to weddings, the Beach is the location of my most special of remembrances. 

I remember my first trip to the beach with my family. My parents packed me and my brother, ages 5 and 3 respectively, in a tiny car with a bunch of camping equipment and set off to the Gulf Coast of Alabama. As we turned on highway 182 that runs parallel with the gulf my brother exclaimed, "Is that snow!?!". The gulf coast is known for its white sand and it did not disappoint. 

Over the years my family traveled back to Gulf Shores, Alabama many times. Sometimes it was only my immediate family and others my Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, and cousins joined us. Now in my 40's I realize how blessed I am to have the memories of my Grandparents sitting in the surf together or playing with my cousins in the waves.

After having my own son I realized the importance of those vacations and the memories I collected over the years. I wanted the same for my son, so we started our yearly trek to the beach. We went to Gulf Shores, Alabama and Hunting Island, South Carolina. We stayed in condo's, hotels, and tents. Each year was a new memory and new adventures. As a single Mom with a very active son, our vacations were often the only time we had to decompress and spend time together. 

A little over a year ago the beaches of the Outer Banks played host to my wedding and family get together. My new husband is a career sailor and his life is about the water. Our mutual love of the sea prompted our decision to host our family on the coast for our wedding. The week was perfect, from time with family up to exchanging our vows, the beach was ever present in the background. 

Souvenirs from our trips are placed around the house and serve as constant reminders of those special times with family and friends. My hope is that Beach Bun will help others bring coastal-inspired decor and gifts home to remind them of their own special beach memories.
